The Summer Reunion
We intend to hold a summer reunion on 8th and 9th July 2017,
This will be a slightly condensed version of the type of reunion held in 2014 and before, starting with a gathering on Saturday morning and ending after breakfast on Sunday morning. The gathering will be in memory of Peter Elbra, who died last year. It will be followed by a formal lunch. The rest of Saturday will follow the traditional programme, with tea, a buffet evening meal, and music from the usual band, Mixed Veg. Overnight stay will be available for those who would like it, and the weekend will finish after breakfast on Sunday. We hope this format will allow those who have stayed to continue to reminisce on the Sunday as they wish, making use of the local hostelries.
We would encourage all those old scholars who campaigned for the resumption of the weekend-style reunions to ensure they put the date in their diary in order not to miss it. The future of weekend reunions will no doubt depend on the response we get this time.
It's also important to note that the weekend requires sufficient bookings well in advance to be able to go ahead, as the Club's financial commitment will be somewhat different to that of previous weekend reunions: we must be sure we are able to meet all the overheads of staffing and so on. Booking forms will go out with the Spring newsletter around Easter, and will also be emailed to all old scholars for whom we have an email address. If you are not sure that we have an email address which you look at regularly, please send us an email so we have one.
We anticipate a good turnout, however, in particular because of a dedicated effort under way to convene a large party of people from the mid-sixties. All reunions, however, are for everyone, so we invite all old scholars and former staff to come. If you want to be sure of meeting the people you would like to this year, please do a bit of 'networking' beforehand and make sure all your old friends know you will be there. The Club is here to help to help people find those they may have lost touch with us - please feel free to email us.
